Distinguished Citizen - Bronze
- Period of performance for consideration: 1 October through 30 November
- Criteria of Award: Awarded to the Detachment Marine who during the period of consideration has demonstrated by leadership and performance an outstanding contribution to the Detachment, Marine Corps League and the Community. Whose personal conduct has reflected favorably on and has brought credit to the Detachment, Marine Corps League and the United States Marine Corps
- If a Marine was awarded “Marine of the Year” he/she should be recommended for this award as well. According to Department guidelines.
Detachment Marine of the Year
- Period of performance for consideration: 1 May through 30 April
- Criteria of Award: Awarded to the Detachment Marine who during the period of consideration has demonstrated by leadership and performance an extraordinary contribution to the Detachment, Marine Corps League, Community, and Nation. Whose personal conduct has reflected favorably on and has brought credit to the Detachment, Marine Corps League and the United States Marine Corps
- The nominee shall be a regular member of the Marine Corps League, in good standing of the Detachment, that submits the Letter of Nomination.
- Only officers and/or members of the Detachment submitting the Letter of Nomination shall be allowed to submit documentary proof or affidavits on behalf of the nominee submitted.
- Any meritorious deed(s) so identified as being within the scope of these rules shall be of such substance that the weight will or shall have brought acclaim and prestige to the Marine Corps League; or has enhanced and/or furthered the concepts of the duties of being a citizen of the United States of America; or has been a deed(s) of courage or valor without regard for his/her own safety. (See National Administrative Procedures Section 300, Sub-Section One (1))
Distinguished Service - Bronze
- Period of performance for consideration: October through 30 November
- Criteria of Award: Awarded to the Detachment Marine who, during the period of consideration, has demonstrated by leadership and performance a distinguished contribution within the Detachment, Department, or Marine Corps League. Whose personal conduct has reflected favorably on and has brought credit to the Detachment, Marine Corps League and the United States Marine Corps
- If a Marine was awarded “Marine of the Year” he/she should be recommended for this award as well. According to Department guidelines.
Detachment Officer (Elected)
- Period of performance for consideration: Installation as an Elected Officer or having served as an elected officer.
- Criteria of Award: Authorized upon Installation as an elected Officer or upon having served as an elected Officer
- Awarded: Officer Installation
Detachment Officer (Appointed)
- Period of performance for consideration: Installation as an Appointed Officer or having served as an appointed officer.
- Criteria of Award: Authorized upon Appointment as an appointed Officer or upon having served as an appointed Officer
- Awarded: Officer Installation
Detachment Recruiter(s) of the Year
- Period of performance for consideration: 1 June through 30 June, Subsequent Year
- Criteria of Award:
- Any member(s) who during the period 1 June through 31 May has fulfilled the requirements for Department MCL Recruiter Recognition – or –
- Any member(s) who during the period 1 July through 30 June has fulfilled the requirements for National MCL Recruiter Recognition – or –
- The member who recruits the most new members, with 5 being the minimum, or reinstated members during the period 1 June through 30 May. This recipient(s) shall be designated as the Detachment Recruiter of the Year.
Community Service:
- Period of performance for consideration: 1 October through 30 November
- Criteria of Award: Awarded to the Detachment Marine who, during the period of consideration, has demonstrated by leadership and performance a significant contribution to the community. Whose personal conduct has reflected favorably on and has brought credit to the Detachment, Marine Corps League, and the United States Marine Corps.
- JROTC – Presented annually to a cadet, not previously a recipient, who:
- Has demonstrated exemplary service above and beyond the service activities performed by the unit of which the cadet is a member.
- Must have held a key leadership position and/or directly contributed to the planning, coordination, and implementation of high-profile community service/volunteer project(s).
- Must be in the top 25 percent of their class in all subjects, including JROTC.
- Scout Leader – Authorized to wear by a Scout Leader currently engaged in scouting.
Individual Meritorious Commendation:
- Period of performance for consideration: 1 November through 31 October
- Criteria of Award: Awarded to the Detachment Marine who during the period of consideration has demonstrated by leadership and performance a significant contribution to the Detachment, Marine Corps League or the Community. Whose contributions have reflected favorably on and has brought credit to the Detachment, Marine Corps League and the United States Marine
Marine Corps League Medal (Membership)
- Awarded to all Detachment Members in good standing in the Marine Corps League.
- A bronze star may be worn for each period of five (5) years of continuous membership and if there has not been a break in membership service.
Certificates
Certificates to be awarded should be printed on the “Blank” embossed Certificate available at the National Ship Stores. The Certificate should then be filled in for the corresponding Award.
Distinguished Citizen Award Certificate – The only notation on the bottom left corner will be “Authorized to Wear-Gold, Silver or Bronze”
Certificate of Appreciation – Presented by the Detachment Commandant for appreciation of loyalty and patriotism to country and the Marine Corps League. This may be awarded to Leaguers and non-League members.
Associate of the Year – Can be a plaque or certificate. A Plaque is presented at the Department level.
