Welcome to the H.E. “Speedy” Wilson Detachment #1141 of the Marine Corps League, proudly serving West Columbia, SC, and surrounding communities. We are a fellowship of Veterans and supporters dedicated to preserving the traditions and values of the United States Marine Corps while giving back to our local community.

Our programs include the annual Toys for Tots campaign, USMC Birthday Ball Celebration, Memorial Day Remembrance, and a range of community outreach efforts. Whether you’re a Marine, Navy FMF Corpsman, and/or Chaplain, or you’re just a patriotic supporter, we welcome you to connect with us, get involved, and make a difference.

Detachment #1141 Monthly Meeting

The next Detachment #1141 meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. We meet at the Veterans Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8738 located at 424 Cedarcrest Drive, Lexington, SC 29073. Our Social Hour/Dinner Hour starts at 6:00 p.m. Dinner is $10 per person and the menu varies at each Detachment meeting. Our official Detachment meeting takes place at 7:00 p.m. If you are interested in joining our Detachment, the cost to join is $35.00 per person. Please bring your DD-214 to a meeting, along with your filled out Detachment Membership Application, which can be found under our Membership tab on our website.

MCL Department of South Carolina Quarterly Meeting

The next MCL Department of South Carolina Quarterly Meeting will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Richland American Legion Post 6, 200 S. Pickens Street, #6, Columbia, SC 29205 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Detachment #1141 Marine Corps League 3rd Annual Toys for Tots Car Show

The Detachment #1141 Marine Corps League 3rd Annual Toys for Tots Car Show will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event will be held at Veterans Foreign Wars (VFW) located at 424 Cedarcrest Drive, Lexington, SC 29170. It costs $20 (cash) to enter your vehicle for the Car Show. In addition, we are also asking car vehicle entries to bring a new unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots. Awards will be presented in the following categories: Best Car, Truck and Motorcycle; Kids Choice; Commandants Choice and Top 15.

Detachment #1141 USMC 251st Speedy Wilson Birthday Ball
 
The Detachment #1141 USMC 251st Speedy Wilson Birthday Ball will be held Saturday, November 7, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The ball will be held at 1917 Club, 5700 Lee Rd, Columbia, SC 29207. The Speedy Wilson Detachment #1141 of the Marine Corps League is sponsoring a celebration commemorating the 251st Anniversary of the founding of the United States Marine Corps. The event will honor Marine Corps tradition with a social hour, followed by the traditional Marine Corps Birthday cake-cutting ceremony and conclude with music and dancing.
 
This is a formal dress occasion. Appropriate attire includes the Marine Corps League Red Evening Dress (Mess) Jacket or Red Blazer uniform. Guest attire is civilian formal, while military personnel may wear the appropriate Service Dress or Evening Dress uniform.
 
*** Absolutely no outside alcohol permitted***
