Welcome to the H.E. “Speedy” Wilson Detachment #1141 of the Marine Corps League, proudly serving West Columbia, SC, and surrounding communities. We are a fellowship of Veterans and supporters dedicated to preserving the traditions and values of the United States Marine Corps while giving back to our local community.
Our programs include the annual Toys for Tots campaign, USMC Birthday Ball Celebration, Memorial Day Remembrance, and a range of community outreach efforts. Whether you’re a Marine, Navy FMF Corpsman, and/or Chaplain, or you’re just a patriotic supporter, we welcome you to connect with us, get involved, and make a difference.
Upcoming Events
1st Annual Detachment Picnic/Social
1st Annual Detachment Picnic/Social on Saturday, July 18, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Paul Quattlebaum’s property. The address is 437 Quattlebaum Rd, Batesburg-Leesville, SC 29070.
We plan on having a good time with games and just socializing to get to know our Detachment membership better. We would really love it if you were to bring your family! Also, don’t forget that this will be an indoor/outdoor event, so be sure to bring some lawn chairs, sunscreen and bug spray. Paul Quattlebaum will be providing the hamburgers and hot dogs for this awesome event! If possible, please bring a side dish for the occasion.
Detachment #1141 Meeting
The next Detachment #1141 meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. We meet at the Veterans Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8738 located at 424 Cedarcrest Drive, Lexington, SC 29073. Our Social Hour/Dinner Hour starts at 6:00 p.m. Dinner is $10 per person and the menu varies at each Detachment meeting. Our official Detachment meeting takes place at 7:00 p.m. If you are interested in joining our Detachment, the cost to join is $35.00 per person. Please bring your DD-214 to a meeting, along with your filled out Detachment Membership Application, which can be found under our Membership tab on our website.

The next MCL Department of South Carolina Quarterly Meeting will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Richland American Legion Post 6, 200 S. Pickens Street, #6, Columbia, SC 29205 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
